I knew I didn't want to fly home right away at the end of our tour, so I looked around at what was close to Chamonix and the Geneva Airport. Did I ever hit the jackpot with RS's recommendation on Annecy! I had no idea how magical it was until I arrived. I could actually see myself living in this lakeside community.
I had a day and 2 nights booked in Annecy and another friend from the tour, Ruth, was also there, so we decided to take a boat tour around the lake together and then we shared a delicious meal directly under the green awning in the photo above. Absolutely memorable and magical!
The next day I strolled around and bought some last minute gifts including a small original watercolor of Annecy for myself. I checked with my airlines the night before my flight only to find out they had to cancel a portion of my trip ... then they let me know they couldn't get me all the way home for another 2 days. Some people might complain, but I was excited! 2 more days in Annecy ... and I could chalk that new item off my Bucket List without waiting years ... a magical bike ride around Lake Annecy!
The next morning after extending my reservations another two days, the hotel directed me to a bike shop a few blocks away which was perfect! You'll see from the multiple photos that it was a magical trip .... like so many other adventures on this trip!
Annecy was the perfect place to finish my Alpine Adventures in 2019 !!
I followed Rick Steves good advice listed in our tour book and booked a room at the end of our tour in Annecy for 2 nights at the Hotel Ibis. Ended up staying for 4 nights in the same room ... airline delay.
The location was great! Only a few blocks from the bus station I used. And you're right in all the magical alley ways and canals throughout beautiful Annecy full of shops and restaurants ... and wonderful energy!
